Decorah Police Department releases results from its Operation Northern Lights safety initiative

The Decorah Police Department recently organized and took part in a large scale traffic safety initiative over the Labor Day weekend.

For an 8-hour period on Saturday, five officers from the Decorah Police Department, six deputies from the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Department, and seven troopers from the Iowa State Patrol conducted heightened traffic enforcement on Highway 52 in Winneshiek County.

Below are the totals from that operation:

• 1 OWI arrest
• 1 Open Container arrest
• 2 Seat Belt citations
• 48 Speed citations
• 1 Stop Light citation
• 2 Driving without a license citations
• 1 Registration violation citation
• 2 No Proof of Insurance citations
• 2 Felony narcotics arrests
• 3 Motorist assists were made

• 82 Warnings were given out for various violations
