UPDATE: Dahly Bridge construction "making good progress"

Construction of the Dahly bridge is "making good progress," said Winneshiek County Engineer Lee Bjerke.

Bjerke told decorahnews.com a deck was poured last on the Dahly Bridge.

"Once the deck reaches strength," Bjerke said, "they will pour the railings." Bjerke expects the railings to be poured by the end of the week.

Soon grading subcontractors will assist in the construction, "to move the material for the approaches to the bridge," said Bjerke.

The Dahly Bridge was destroyed in May 2017 when a 30-ton grain truck crossed the 3-ton weight limit bridge. The bridge collapsed into the Upper Iowa River and was removed shortly thereafter.

Construction of the Dahly Bridge replacement started this spring. The bridge will not cost any direct local property tax money. The bridge construction is being paid for by Iowa's bridge fund and the federal bridge replacement funds.
