KDEC's Bob Holtan signs off, ending 23 years of "Our Town" interviews

KDEC owner Bob Holtan on Thursday morning did his final "Our Town" broadcast on KDEC-AM, ending a 23-year tradition.

Holtan and his wife, Colleen, have sold KDEC AM/FM to Wennes Communications, the owner of KVIK 104.7FM in Decorah and KNEI 103.5FM, KMRV 1160AM and 99.1FM in Waukon.  The operational transfer will begin soon, although official approval by the Federal Communications Commission is still pending.

Holtan told well-wishers at The Family Table Thursday, "we have had a great time."  He recalled when he started doing "Our Town" 23 years ago.  He said that although it "was not in my background at all," he soon felt that it was "the number one way to meet people (from the community)."

Holtan says he and his wife plan to stay in Decorah, although they now plan to travel more in retirement.
