Mary Christopher Park could be the new location of a proposed Veterans Memorial

After a tour of Mary Christopher Park on Monday afternoon, a group of local veterans wanting to find a space for a new Veterans Memorial says the park might be the best possible location.

Half a dozen veterans met with members of a Decorah City Council committee Monday night.  They heard Mayor Lorraine Borowski make a strong push for putting the memorial in the park, as opposed to an earlier request to put in on the grounds of City Hall.  The mayor said she wanted to be cautious about allowing City Hall property to be used when the property might be needed for future expansion of City Hall.

Local veteran Glenn Larson said his group now believes "Mary Christopher Park would be the best place."  City council member Ross Hadley agreed, saying, "It could really beautify Mary Christopher."

City officials and local veterans continue to discuss the proposal for a memorial.
