City of Decorah: "Trim those trees!"

Posted: Sun, Aug 25, 2019 4:33 PM

The Decorah City Council is reminding property owners of their responsibility to maintain trees in the boulevards.  Tree branches need to be at least 14 feet above streets and alleys and at least 8 feet above sidewalks.  The minimum clearance over arterial streets including Mechanic Street, Locust Road, College Drive, Montgomery Street, and Division Street shall be sixteen feet.

The City of Decorah on Monday plans to start inspecting minimum clearance heights for trees overhanging streets and sidewalks.

To assist residents with meeting the required clearances, the City will be trimming any tree/planting that is not currently meeting the minimum street clearances. Once the City Forester has trimmed the tree/planting to the appropriate street clearance, the City expects property owners to maintain the clearances as necessary as outlined in city code.

Property owners with any questions can call City Forester Sam Hogenson at (563) 277-5153.
