Winneshiek County's assessed valuation is now over $2.25 billion

Figures are now out for Winneshiek County's taxpayers.

The 2018 total assessed valuation of all property in the county has been placed at $2,257,035,265.  That's an increase of almost $66 million from the 2017 assessed valuation total.

However, taxpayers aren't charged their property taxes based on "assessed valuation," but rather on "taxable valuations."  That figure is always a percentage of the assessed valuation.  For 2018, that figure is $1,342,322,581.  The figure represents an increase of 3.13 percent from 2017, when the total was $1,301,594.304.  That represents a $40 million increase.

As for the actual property taxes levied, the mill rate in most cases is the same or slightly higher than the 2017 rate.  The lone exception to this is the small property tax levy for Winneshiek Medical Center, which was in percentage terms 60 to 70 percent higher than 2017.
