Luther professor awarded prize for her dissertation on the American South

Luther College assistant professor of Africana Studies and History Kelly Sharp has received an award for her dissertation on black labor, material culture and foodways in the early 19th century American South.

The Melvin E. Bradford Dissertation Prize was presented to Sharp at the annual meeting of the St. George Tucker Society.

Sharp is currently revising her dissertation into a book called "Provisioning Charleston: Food, Race, and Labor in the Antebellum Lowcountry."
