Construction of the Dahly Bridge is "going very well," according to Winneshiek County Engineer Lee Bjerke.
Bjerke told the Winneshiek Country Board of Supervisors Monday that an additional crew of workers has been added to the Dahly Bridge construction and, weather permitting, significant progress is expected over the next week.
The Dahly Bridge was destroyed in May 2017 when a 30-ton grain truck crossed the 3-ton weight limit bridge. The bridge collapsed into the Upper Iowa River and was removed shortly thereafter.
Construction of the Dahly Bridge replacement started this spring. The bridge will not cost any direct local property tax money. The bridge construction is being paid for by Iowa's bridge fund and the federal bridge replacement funds.
