Decorah was not chosen as a 2019 Main Street Iowa city

Decorah will not be one of the 2019 Main Street Iowa communities.

The Iowa Department of Economic Development announced the addition of Nevada as the newest Main Street Iowa community on Wednesday.  Nevada joins only 53 other Main Street Iowa communities across the state.  IDED and Iowa Finance Authority Director Debi Durham was on-site to make the announcement and celebrate the community's accomplishments.

"Nevada is experiencing tremendous economic momentum right now," said Durham. "They smartly see how the Main Street program can help them create a quality of life and hip upper-story downtown housing that will attract the young workforce needed to fill a growing number of jobs at local businesses."

A Decorah group had prepared an application to IDED to have the community named a Main Street Iowa community and was one of four semi-finalists, but was not selected.  The group will have to wait two years to reapply, if it wishes, since Main Street Iowa communities are named only every other year.
