UPDATE: Coon Rapids named one of the two new Main Street Iowa communities

Coon Rapids has been named one of two new Main Street Iowa Communities.

The Iowa Department of Economic Development announced Tuesday the addition of Coon Rapids as the newest Main Street Iowa community. Coon Rapids joins only 53 other Main Street Iowa communities across the state. The announcement was made at the Raccoon River Social Club in Coon Rapids.

The naming of Coon Rapids as a 2019 Main Street Iowa community means there will be just one more community named as a new 2019 Main Street Iowa community. Decorah, Monticello and Nevada are in the running for the final spot. An announcement ceremony will be held Wednesday in the final community. That community is expected to be either Nevada or Monticello.
