The Decorah Planning & Zoning Commission has unanimously approved the site plan for a new Kwik Star store on Montgomery Street on property which formerly housed Viking Express.

Kwik Trip Real Estate Development Manager Wade DuMond told P & Z members Monday night the new building would be just under 7,300 square feet in space and would have much more produce and fresh meat for sale than at the Short Street store.

Plans call for construction of the building to start in 2020.  The site plan drawing presented by DuMond to the Commission shows a large Kwik Star building, along the lines of similar stores in Chatfield and Caledonia.

Planning & Zoning Commission members had questions for DuMond about traffic impacts, parking spaces and rainwater runoff, but seemed satisfied with his responses and approved the site plan on a 6-0 vote.

The existing building would be torn down to make way for the new development
