In a visit to Decorah, Democratic Presidential candidate Kirsten Gillibrand tackles the electability issue

New York State U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is one of two dozen people running for the Democratic Party nomination.  With that many candidates, it's hard to break away from the pack.  That's been the case for Gillibrand, who has been polling one percent or two percent in the latest surveys.

But in an appearance Friday afternoon in Decorah, Gillibrand said she knows she could beat President Donald Trump in a head-to-head contest.  "I know I can win red, purple and blue (districts)," she told the crowd at Phelps Park.  Gillibrand was first elected to the U.S. House by beating a Republican in a district when GOP registered voters outnumbered Democratic registered voters two-to-one.

Gillibrand says 2020 should be the year a woman first gets elected as President.  "I believe a woman is the best candidate," she said.  She believes the 2020 election will be another breakthrough election for women candidates.
