Voters in the Second Ward in the City of Decorah will go to the polls Tuesday, September 24th, to elect a Decorah City Council member.
A petition has been submitted with the City Clerk which has enough signatures to force the special election. The Decorah City Council will be asked at its next meeting on August 19th to set the election date for September 24th.
At its last meeting, the Decorah City council appointed Emily Neal to fill the unexpired term of Dan Bellrichard, who had moved out of the Second Ward. However, Iowa Code allows for voters to call for a special election if a petition with the required number of signatures is presented.
Emily Neal now will serve on the city council until September 24th, then she or whomever is elected will serve until the end of 2019. The winner in the November 5th election then will serve a full four-year term.
