Plans for a new Dry Run Park on the east edge of downtown Decorah on Water Street got a boost Wednesday from the board of the Self Supporting Municipal Improvement District (SSMID). After hearing a presentation from park proponent Joe Grimstad, the SSMID Board agreed to pledge $10,000 towards the project.
Proponents of the new park are trying to raise $170,000 in donations. The Decorah Park Board has endorsed the project--but has stated the money for the park must come from private donations, not Park Board funds.
The proposed park would be located on East Water Street, next to Riverside Street. "Dry Run Park" would be a pocket park, similar to Water Street Park on the west end of downtown Decorah.
SSMID Board members on Wednesday said their $10,000 pledge toward the park would not close the door to future contributions--but any additional funding would have to be discussed in the future.
