Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and First Lutheran Church in Decorah are holding a procession and prayer vigil at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday in response to the ongoing immigration emergency on the U.S. southern border.

The event will start at Carl Selland Wayside Park, directly across from Pulpit Rock Brewing, then people will walk to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at 701 Iowa Avenue.  At the church, the group will read scripture, sing hymns, and pray for immigrants, for those who care for them, and for elected leaders. All people of faith are welcome to participate. Those not wishing to take part in the walk may gather at the church at noon.

This event will be held in conjunction with the ELCA Churchwide Assembly, which will be taking place in Milwaukee, WI, August 5th through the 10th.

The prayer vigil is being sponsored by the ELCA AMMPARO Network (Accompanying Migrant Minors with Protection, Advocacy, Resources and Opportunity) of which both First Lutheran and Good Shepherd are members. For questions, e-mail mpruitt.jefferson58@gmail.com
