The six remaining Decorah City Council members will vote Monday night to fill the vacancy on the council left by Dan Bellrichard's resignation.
Two people have applied to be appointed to the city council.
Daniel Kirkeby, who is a maintenance worker at Fairfield Inn and Suites in Decorah, says he wants to serve on the city council because he is "genuinely concerned about the direction the City of Decorah is currently going." Kirkeby says he would "analyze and thoroughly listen to, research topics before making any hasty decisions."
Emily Neal, who is the Assistant Director for Luther College's Center for Sustainable Communities, says she wants to serve on the city council because "I'd like to see our community be a leader in overcoming divisiveness in order to work towards common goals...I would like to help Decorah both embrace new opportunities and prepare for the changes that are rapidly coming."
Whoever is appointed will serve the unexpired portion of Bellrichard's term--until December 31st of this year.
