County health officials warn about an increase in diarrhea cases

Posted: Sat, Aug 3, 2019 2:35 PM

There has been an increased number of cases of diarrhea in Winneshiek County recently, according to Winneshiek County Public Health.

Health officials say one of the most important ways to respond to diarrhea is to stay home from work, school, or class if you are ill. If children attend daycare, do not send them. Do NOT go to the pool if you are having diarrhea.

Hand washing and cleaning your environment is also of upmost importance. It is important to wash your hands using soap and warm or hot running water, washing for at least 15 seconds.  Wash all surfaces, including wrist, palms, backs of hands, between fingers, and as much as possible under fingernails, by rubbing vigorously.  Rinse hands under running water and dry hands with disposable paper towels.

If you are responsible for food or meal preparation for others, DON'T FIX FOOD FOR ANYONE ELSE.
