Emily Neal and Daniel Kirkeby file applications for vacant Council seat.

Daniel Kirkeby and Emily Neal have filed applications to be appointed temporarily as Ward 2 Decorah City Council representative. The seat became open after Dan Bellrichard moved to a house outside the ward.

The temporary city council member will serve the rest of Bellrichard's term, which ends in December.

However, the 2nd Ward Council position will be on the ballot in November. So whoever is appointed to the temporary seat will have the option to run for the seat in November and thus secure the seat for a four-year term.

Kirkeby is a Decorah native who graduated from Decorah HS in 1982. He currently works at Fairfield by Marriott in Decorah.

Neal is currently the Assistant Director for the Center for Sustainable Communities at Luther College.

The remaining six members of the Decorah City Council will vote on filling the vacancy at the regular city council meeting Monday night.
