Archeological survey being done for the Dry Run Trail

Federal funds will pay for an archeological survey of the land to be used for the Dry Run Trail connecting Trout Run Trail and the Prairie Farmer Trail.
Past surveys have not discovered any major archeological artifacts, but since federal funding is involved, a new survey must be done. Because the creek did not have water in the winter, it was not used as a campground for native Americans. If artifacts are discovered, steps might be taken to make sure such areas are not disturbed, then the bike trail could be built, or a slight detour in the path could be built.
The proposed route for Dry Run Trail will leave Decorah near the Highway 9 bridge and cross under Highway 52 following the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific railroad corridor south to where the railbed ends, and then take the backslope of 200th Street and Highway 52 until it connects with the Prairie Farmer Recreational Trail at County Road B16. The linked trails will create a 43-mile trail system, connecting Cresco, Ridgeway, Calmar, and Decorah.
