Dalton Adam

There might not be a first degree murder trial in Decorah in October.

The attorney for Dalton Adam, who is facing the murder charge in the death of David Hansen of Freeport last July, has filed a motion to move the trial to a different county.

The motion by Andrew Thalacker of Waterloo says, "Defendant's alleged role in the death of David Hansen was covered extensively by various area media during the Winneshiek county trial, State versus Jacob Seelinger."

The motion also says "At initiation of this case, there were a series of inflammatory media releases by law enforcement regarding the Defendant (Adam). Throughout...this case, there have been numerous area media outlets which have reported on this case and continue to do so."

Thalacker also states the public has posted opinions on social media about the case, so the defendant believes he cannot get a fair trial in Winneshiek County.

Adam's trial has been scheduled for October 28th in Decorah. However, a ruling by the judge in the case could move the trial elsewhere.
