Three Decorah homes will be featured during this year's Nordic Fest Yard and Garden Tours. The Decorah Town & Country Garden Club is sponsoring the tours, which will be held Friday from 9:00 a.m. until noon, and Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
1. Bill & Joan Carlisle - 301 East Main St.
Having gardened extensively in Vermont and the high desert of west Texas before moving to Decorah, in three years Bill has maximized and deer-proofed his yard with a wide variety of vegetables, annuals, perennials, and trees.
Directions: From downtown go east on Water St. Turn right on Day St. and go 1 block to the corner.
2. Jim & Diana Morrow, 1406 Jordan Dr.
With the rolling hills and farmland outside their living room window, Jim and Diana wanted to create a prairie garden incorporating some of Iowa's native plants. Since 2009, they have added other perennials to add color and interest for the different seasons.
Directions: From downtown take College Dr. Turn right on W-38 (Locust Rd.) at Casey's. Go 1.5 mile. Turn right on Laurel Dr. Go 1 block. Turn right on Parkview Dr. Go 1 block and turn left on Jordan Dr.
3. Neal and Nancy Solomonson - 2181 190th Ave.
Seeing glorious art in all creation, Neal and Nancy find great joy in a variety of blooming plants, shrubs and trees, especially those with marvelous scents.
Directions: Turn right at the Walmart corner on East Hwy 9 onto Trout Run Rd. Go .2 mile. Turn left on Stone Hill Rd. Go 2.5 miles. At the top of a hill, where Stone Hill Rd. curves left, turn right onto Haugen Hill Rd. Go .2 mile. Turn right on 190th Ave. to the first house on the left.
