School administration gives thumbs up to plans for bump-out street intersection

Posted: Mon, Jul 22, 2019 11:00 p.m

At Monday evening's Decorah School Board meeting, Superintendent Mark Lane reviewed city plans to install two bump-outs at the intersection of Broadway and Winnebago. During the school season, the intersection receives heavy foot traffic. The intention of the bump-outs is to slow drivers as they approach the intersection. Lane said it would provide an increased visual recognition of the intersection, as well as reduce the length of the intersection walk for students from 65 feet to 31 feet.

Prior to Monday's School Board Council meeting, Superintendent Lane met with School Transportation Director Jim Samuelson and City Engineer Jeremy Bril to discuss plans to install the bump-outs. Superintendent Lane credited City Engineer Jeremy Bril for coming up with the plan and discussing it with  interested parties.

Construction will likely occur in summer 2020.
