The prosecution on Monday wrapped up its case against Brian Fullhart of Cresco, accused of first degree murder in the shooting death of his wife, former Decorah resident Zoanne Fullhart, on March 1st, 2018.
The trial will now take a break until 9:00 Wednesday morning, when Defense Attorney Matt Hoffey will begin calling witnesses to the stand.
Monday morning's testimony was largely from laboratory experts testifying about the blood found on the scene of the shooting and other evidence.
After a luncheon break, the jury returned to the courtroom around 1:20 Monday afternoon. District Court Judge Linda Fangman then announced that the case was proceeding more quickly than anticipated and that jurors would be dismissed until defense witnesses were called Wednesday morning.
Cresco Police officers responded to a 9-1-1 call on March 1st of 2018, reporting a shooting at 700 South Elm Street #32 in Cresco. Upon arrival, officers say they were confronted by Brian Fullhart. Police said Fullhart was uncooperative with officers and threatened to shoot officers, but he was eventually taken into custody. Officers then entered the residence and located the body of a woman who was later identified as Fullhart's wife, 34-year-old Zoanne Fullhart of Decorah.
Defense witnesses will be called to the stand Wednesday to support the contention that Fullhart was under "diminished capacity" on the night of the shooting.
