Letter to the Editor: Bring the Pledge of Allegiance back to Decorah schools

(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Jacob Voigt of Decorah):

"For too long Americans have been silenced, for too long have we lived in fear to speak out against the opposition only because they disagree with our political ideology.  Why should we remain silent while elected officials spout socialist agendas that threaten our God given rights, and while big tech continues to censor conservative speech online because it does not match their political beliefs?

What happened to our beloved republic?  What caused us to be so divided that some are willing to physically harm another to silence speech they don't agree with?  From people throwing milkshakes at others to mass riots, the left continues to threaten the integrity of the United States. They refuse to work with the current administration and even went as far as to conduct an investigation into our President for two years attempting but not succeeding in passing good policy and increasing national growth.

I as an American want to start a campaign to bring the Pledge of Allegiance back to Decorah schools. I believe this will help unify our community and help teach young Americans why it is important to respect our flag.  I also want to have a sit down with the principal of Decorah High School to establish a club for freedom of speech, where students can speak their opinions about different issues in society regardless of political leanings. I believe this will help youth in the community be able to be more tolerant to others beliefs in the future. I myself cannot do this alone--I will need the support of all citizens of Winneshiek County. Together I believe we can succeed in building a more tolerant future."
