The deadline has passed for applications to become the next Decorah Police Chief.
City Administrator Chad Bird says seven applications for the position have been received. Testing for the position will be held Friday and Saturday, August 2nd and 3rd, along with interviews. Bird says a public reception also will be held for the finalists, probably on that Friday evening.
Meanwhile, Decorah Police Chief Bill Nixon's last day on the job is next Wednesday, July 24th. Nixon told city council members Monday night, "You have made our job easier." He thanked former Police Chiefs Ben Wyatt and Tom Courtney, former Mayor Don Arendt and current Mayor Lorraine Borowski and praised his staff as "incredible, committed, talented" people. A reception for Nixon will be held Tuesday afternoon.
