The City of Decorah's newest proposed four-year street project plan calls for spending at least $5,592,089 on street projects over that time period.
The spending is caused by two large projects. The first is the reconstruction of Locust Road--a project not included in the $5.6 million price tag, since bonding will be used to pay for that project. However, the need to use Ridge Road and other streets for the Locust Road project will spur at least $740,000 in related construction.
The second project--scheduled to be done between July 1, 2022 and June 30th, 2023--will be the reconstruction of North College Drive. Again, the detour necessitated by that road project will cause work to be done on the detour route--in this case, $450,000 worth of construction on Pole Line Road.
The four-year plan is a road map for the city to follow, but doesn't prevent future city councils from changing priorities. There have been suggestions in the past that East Main Street also is a priority for reconstruction.
