The Winneshiek County Fair Board has handed out distinguished service awards and Friends of the Fair awards.

The 2019 recipient of the Lifetime Distinguished Service Award is Rich Hammel.  He has been a member of the Fair Auxiliary for almost 25 years, helping with the annual Antique Show and Flea Market every year and heading up the Fireman's Bull Bash since it started 11 years ago.  He is a member of the Winneshiek County Cattlemen and helped plan and build the beef quarters at the Fair.

Also recognized was Norman Dickman, who died in an accident this past year.  Norman loved the Fair and always brought his Farmall H to the parade.  This year the familiar Farmall H tractor was driven by his daughter, Denise Buddenberg.

Receiving Friends of the Fair awards were Bruening Rock Products and Lynch Livestock.  Bruening Rock Products has been supporters of the Fair for over 25 years, not only helping with projects at the fairgrounds, but also with their support of the 4H/FFA Livestock Auction.  Lynch Livestock was one of the first companies to sponsor grandstand shows.  They also have been supporters of the livestock auction and support 4H and FFA activities throughout the year.
