The prosecution's first witness Tuesday in the Jacob Seelinger murder trial in Decorah was Iowa State Trooper Jared Rude, who was the first law enforcement officer to arrive on the scene of David Hansen's house in Freeport last July 12th.
Seelinger faces a charge of first degree murder in the death of Hansen.
Proescutors in the case showed a video taken by the camera in Rude's squad car. The video shows Hansen lying on the pavement in front of his garage while Calista Seelinger holds him.
Other emergency responders arrived soon after Officer Rude, including paramedics who took Hansen to Winneshiek Medical Center immediately. Rude took photos of Hansen after the group arrived at the hospital--photos which were shown Tuesday morning to the jurors in the case. The photos show Hansen with his eyes puffed shut and a large gash on his face. Many of the jurors looked away after seeing the photos.
Rude testified Tuesday that he left the hospital and went to the home of Jacob Seelinger Senior in Haugen-Hummel, where he found Jacob Junior in the driveway. As Rude was arresting Seelinger, Rude said Jacob told him to be careful of his right hand because it hurt.
