The prosecution and the defense in the Jacob Seelinger murder trial got their chance Tuesday morning to outline their cases.
Seelinger is accused of first degree murder in the death of David Hansen of Freeport last July 12th.
Special Prosecutor Scott Brown told jurors Hansen was attacked by both Seelinger and Dalton Adam on July 12th. He said the prosecution would show evidence that Hansen was left "gasping for his life" on the driveway outside his home, "his face reduced to a bloody mess." Brown told jurors Jacob Seelinger was upset with Hansen for Hansen's abuse of Jacob's mother, Calista Seelinger. When Calista Seelinger called 9-1-1 following the attack, Brown said she identified both Jacob and Adam as the attackers of Hansen.
Defense Attorney James Metcalf says it was Dalton Adam, not Jacob Seelinger, who was responsible for David Hansen's death. Metcalf told jurors Adam landed the first punch, a punch that sent Hansen to the pavement, followed by "a loud crack." Said Metcalf of Jacob Seelinger, "He probably had some responsibility, but not for David Hansen's death."
Testimony in the case is expected to continue through at least Wednesday.
