Spillville resident honored by Iowa Archeological Society

The Iowa Archeological Society has presented Spillville resident Russell Baldner with the Keyes-Orr Award.

The award is given in recognition of outstanding service to the Iowa Archeological Society and in the research, reporting, and preservation of Iowa's prehistoric and historic heritage.

Baldner was recognized for his publications on the history, research, present condition, and preservation of northeast Iowa's late prehistoric to early historic Native American rock art heritage (petroglyphs, pictographs).  The award mentioned Baldner's outreach to Native communities to seek their knowledge as being "especially impressive."
