Wennes Communications, the owner of KVIK 104.7FM in Decorah and KNEI 103.5FM, KMRV 1160AM and 99.1FM in Waukon, filed an application Tuesday in Washington, D.C. for assignment to the company of the licenses of KDEC 100.5FM and KDEC 1240AM in Decorah.
When approved by the FCC and after closing, Wennes Communications will operate six radio stations in NE Iowa and will add a new FM translator station that will rebroadcast KDEC AM programming on 94.9FM.
KDEC owners Bob and Colleen Holtan said that while they will be leaving KDEC, they will still be involved in broadcasting with their radio stations in Marshalltown.
Wennes Communications President Greg Wennes said no staff changes are planned at either company. Said Wennes, "By combining talent, services and equipment, the overall sound and delivery of music, news, sports and informational programming will be taken to the next quality level."
The official transfer of the radio stations could take place by early fall.
