200 teens and their adult leaders will arrive in Calmar Sunday

Posted: Tue, Jul 2, 2019 2:58 PM

A week-long service camp for teenagers, "Catholic Heart Workcamp," will be headquartered at South Winneshiek High School starting Sunday and running through July 12th.

Youth groups will be sleeping on the classroom floors, eating meals and spending their evenings in programs put on by the staff of CHWC.

Catholic Heart Workcamp is based in Orlando, Florida.  It provides youth groups, teens and adult leaders with service opportunities to restore homes and hearts, feed the hungry, lift the spirits of children and help the elderly and disabled.

Jobs will include general home repair, indoors and out, cleaning and yard work, and light construction such as installing handicap ramps and doing step and deck repair. CHWC also hopes to work at the new Habitat for Humanity house going up in Calmar and to work at the Depot and local food pantries.
