Summer has arrived in Decorah, with projected temperatures through Sunday hovering in the high-'80s and low-'90s.

Winneshiek County Public Health has given some tips for beating the heat, and preventing heat-related illnesses, such as heat stroke, heat exhaustion and sunburn. Public Health advises to drink plenty of water, limit outside activity to morning and evening, and use plenty of suncreen.

The Iowa State Extension and Outreach office advises farmers that dramtic increases in temperature may cause heat stress in cattle. They advise farmers to monitor and evaluate cattle both in the morning and evening, to make sure they are coping well with the heat.
