County supervisors called on to soothe a dispute between some veterans and the Veterans Affairs Commission

Winneshiek County Supervisors on Monday found themselves in the middle of two groups of veterans.  A group of local veterans appeared before the county board with complaints about the recent actions of nominating two members of the VA Commission.  Longtime veterans activist Glenn Larson told supervisors the veterans did not get answers to their questions about the search for two people to appoint to the VA Commission.  "There's no reason we should have been treated like that," Larson told the board.

County Board Chair John Logsdon said the dispute between the two groups was "disheartening and disappointing."  At a later meeting with county Veterans Affairs representatives, he told the group the local veterans would like to be more included.

Supervisor John Beard noted that he and other supervisors are always being asked questions by the public, saying, "That goes along with the position."  He told the local veterans, "You have a right to ask those questions and get answers."

The Veterans Affairs Commission is recommending that Rick Delarosa and Robert Moudry be appointed to the two openings on the Commission.  County supervisors delayed any action on the recommendations until next week.
