58-year-old Ronald Meyer of Decorah has entered a guilty plea to a felony charge of Enticing a Minor.  The plea cancels a trial on the charge which had been scheduled for Wednesday.

Meyer had been arrested last September by Decorah Police, following an investigation which also been done by the Winneshiek County Attorney's Office.

In accepting the guilty plea, District Court Judge Alan Heavens imposed a $1,012.25 fine, but said the fine would be suspended if Meyer successfully completed a two- to five-year probation.  Heavens also extended the order requiring no contact with the minor, which now will extend into 2024.  Meyer is also required to immediately register as a sex offender and pay a civil penalty of $250.  Meyer will also be required to submit a DNA sample and to be fingerprinted, if he has not already done so.

Judge Heavens said he was accepting the guilty plea after giving special consideration to the fact that prosecutors had recommended accepting the plea as part of a settlement of the case.
