Supporters of Decorah's application to become a Main Street Iowa community received a setback Monday morning. The Winneshiek County Board voted 4-0 against a resolution of support for the application.
Supervisor Mark Kuhn said the county already provides plenty of support through its funding of tourism programs operated by Winneshiek County Development.
Supervisor John Beard said he is worried about creating another level of organization when the county's current historical preservation efforts are doing well. He also said the resolution of support for Decorah's Main Street Iowa designation carried with it an implied request for funding. He said the Main Street effort "is not getting us moved ahead."
Supervisors John Logsdon and Floyd Ashbacher agreed and the resolution was rejected unanimously.
