Decorah Police Department releases results from their Special Traffic Enforcement Program

The Decorah Police Department has recently completed a sTEP (Special Traffic Enforcement Program) wave. The increased enforcement wave ran from May 20th through June 2nd.

Ten officers from the Decorah Police Department contributed to the following sTEP wave statistics:
• 1 OWI arrest
• 1 Public Intoxication arrest
• 2 Seat belt citations issued
• 9 Speed violations cited
• 1 Registration violation cited
• 2 No Proof of Insurance citations issued
• 2 Equipment violations issued
• 17 Motorist Assists performed

• 84 various traffic, registration, and equipment warnings were given

Seat belt usage surveys are performed before and after the sTEP waves. Decorah's pre-wave seat belt usage percentage was 88%. The post-wave usage was 94%.
