Website that is "like Amazon, but local" is being studied by Decorah merchants

What if there were a local shopping website for Decorah which acted much like Amazon does, but on a local level?

That's the idea being studied by Decorah business owners after being discussed at a recent Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce Retail Committee meeting.

Shop Where I Live, based in Marion, Iowa, would create an on-line shop for participating Decorah businesses, highlighting their products and allowing the products to be sold online.  A flyer for the company says "We're helping small business and communities fight back and capture some of the local online sales that are going elsewhere, by making it convenient to shop local, online."

If the program is started, it would be sponsored by the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce--but no decision has been made at this point.
