One month before the two school districts combine, Decorah and North Winneshiek school board members have an issue to resolve

The last day of classes at North Winneshiek School is Friday, June 7th. The North Winneshiek School District will go out of existence on Monday, July 1st, becoming part of a larger Decorah Community School District.
But there might be one last issue to tackle before the two districts merge. A special session of the North Winneshiek School Board will be held this coming Monday to discuss bids on a new septic system for North Winneshiek School. A special session of the Interim Decorah/North Winneshiek School Board had been scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Monday, but has now been cancelled.
The North Winn School Board asked for bids on the project and received a bid of $154,400 from Blazek of Lawler and a bid of $222,500 from Skyline Construction. The North Winneshiek School Board will meet at 4:30 p.m. Monday to discuss those bids.
Since any payment for the project would come from the new, larger, Decorah Community School District after July 1st and since the North Winneshiek School Board would go out of existence June 30th, if there is a disagreement between the two boards, the Interim School Board appears to have final legal authority regarding action on the bids.
Last month some members of the Interim School Board expressed reservation about following through on the project because of the cost and undetermined future use of the facility.
