A Decorah FFA agronomy team has qualified to compete at the State FFA Agronomy Contest in June at Iowa State University in Ames.
FFA members Ashley Nierling, Daniel Schwartzhoff, Steven Sexton and Shayla Smith placed third out of 25 teams at the Northeast Iowa District FFA Agronomy Contest, while the team of Parker Monroe, Stacia Sexton, and Alex Zweibohmer received 6th place. Individually, the Decorah FFA had three members place in the top ten. Stacia Sexton placed 6th, Ashley Nierling received 7th, and Daniel Schwartzhoff placed 8th.
The students evaluated various crop production aspects, including hay quality, silage samples, seed quality, and corn and soybean marketing. The students also took a 50-question multiple-choice exam covering agronomic practices.
