Members of Decorah High School's Community Club have given a $500 donation to the Decorah Community School District's Backpack Program.
Each year Community Club members sell spirit buttons and donate the proceeds to an organization in need. Local restaurants donate gift certificates to help encourage button sales.
The backpack supply program helps an average of around 60 Decorah students per school year, most of the help coming in August. The program also offers supplies to new students coming into the district throughout the year. The backpacks are prepared by volunteers. Supplies are available for students pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. All supplies have been donated to the program or purchased through monetary donations from community members, churches, local businesses, corporations, and other local organizations.
Organizers of the program can accept donations at John Cline Elementary or the Central Administration Office. Information about acquiring supplies will be available at registration in August. Questions about the program can be directed to administrative assistant Jacki Frank at jacki.frank@decorah.k12.ia.us
