A 2017 survey by the Iowa State University Extension Program revealed that 47 percent of farmland in Iowa is owned by a woman. That's why the group "Women Caring for the Land" has been formed in NE Iowa.
The local chapter of the group will meet at 10:00 Wednesday morning, May 29th, at Winneshiek Wildberry Winery at 1966 337th Street in Decorah. ISU Extension Office attorney Melissa O'Rourke will speak about farm estate and transition planning, as well as farmland leasing and ownership. In addition, Upper Iowa River Watershed Project Coordinator Matt Frana will speak on soil conservation and available grants.
