Six parcels are being purchased by Alliant

Alliant Energy's plans to build a new facility to serve the Decorah area are coming to a reality.

The utility has paid $1,649,960 to purchase six properties on the west end of Short Street, near the intersection of Highways 9 & 52.  The money spent on the purchase will be partially offset by selling Alliant's downtown office for $550,000 to Bruening Rock Products (Alliant will continue to lease the space until its new facility is constructed).

Surveyors were working at the properties on Tuesday.  Local Alliant Energy staffers say the move of offices and warehouse space to the properties could take a couple of years.

Earlier, Alliant had announced it was looking for space where all its Decorah operations could be in one location.  The new location is close to both Highway 9 and Highway 52, which is seen as an advantage in allowing crews to get on the road as quickly as possible.

Alliant Energy will work to prepare a site plan for the area to submit to the City of Decorah for approval.

The area currently has several warehouses and business offices
