Are you one of the many in Decorah who are looking to meet people and get some exercise, too? That's what prompted Luther graduate and Nordic Chiropractic owner Laurie Meinholz to start the Decorah Running Club.
Meinholz says she started the group in early April in order to meet people, build community, and foster accountability for runners of all abilities in the Decorah area. The group meets twice a week for a 3 to 3.5 mile run -- Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays at 7:00 a.m. All runs start and end in front of Nordic Chiropractic at 209 East Water Street.
Meinholz posts the route on the group's Facebook page a few days before they meet and says everyone who shows up is encouraged to run the route at their own pace. "Some walk and others run, but the best part is we can do it together," explained Meinholz. As the group grows in numbers and ability levels, Meinholz envisions eventually offering a variety of mileage options for each run. "My ultimate goal is to build a local community of runners who can socialize, train together, share training tips, and even carpool to running events,"says Meinholz.
