Vesterheim exhibit photo of tattoo artists William Grimshaw and Amund Dietzel, June 1913
Vesterheim Museum has announced its next exhibit at the museum will be "Tattoo: Identity Through Ink."
The exhibit, which will open Saturday, June 1st, will tell the story of tattoos and the people who have them. Of course there is a Scandinavian connection–Norwegian tattoo artist Johan Frederik Knudsen and Norwegian-American tattoo artist Amund Dietzel will be mentioned in the exhibit.
The exhibit will include large and immersive photos and videos and original art and artifacts from around the world. There will be a working tattoo studio and on special days tattoo artists will demonstrate their art live. Temporary tattoos inspired by objects in the collection will be for sale in the Museum Store.
The June 1st opening for the exhibit will run from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with exclusive Valkyrie Strike IPA from Toppling Goliath Brewery and live tattooing in the gallery by Decorah tattoo artist Brock Swenson.
