Decorah is getting a new Hy-Vee store.
The Decorah City Council voted unanimously (7-0) Monday night to approve a development agreement with Ridge Development Company for work that will bring a new Hy-Vee store to Decorah.
The vote came right after a public hearing in which eight comments in support of the agreement were delivered. Decorah resident Scott Carlson said Hy-Vee "would diversify our economic base," pulling in customers from around the region who would then shop at other Decorah stores. Ridgeway resident Mark Jensen reminded the city council that decisions made in Decorah impact Ridgeway, Bluffton and other communities in addition to impacting Decorah. Decorah resident Ron Fadness said Hy-Vee would be "a wonderful thing for our community."
Since the developer does not plan to build an addition to the existing building in the Centrum Plaza, no Planning & Zoning Commission site plan review will be needed. There will be a building permit issued for the construction, but Monday night's approval means the development can begin.
