Decorah 8th grader receives citizenship medal

Decorah Middle School 8th grader Sophia Gallentine, the daughter of Todd and Mattine Gallentine of Decorah, has received a National Defense Youth Citizenship Medal from the Hannah Lee Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution.

American History Chairman of the Hannah Lee Chapter Sarah Nowack presented the award to Sophia at a school assembly.  Sophia was chosen by the school faculty, using the criteria of  Honor, Service (cooperation, helpfulness, and responsibility), Courage, Leadership (personality, self-control, and initiative), and Patriotism (unselfish loyalty to American ideals).
