The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office, Decorah Police Department, Winneshiek County Emergency Management and Northeast Iowa Drug Task Force say last weekend's "Prescription Drug Take Back Day" was a success.
The groups collected 130.6 pounds of prescription medications. Overall in the counties participating, 540.2 pounds of prescription medications were taken in.
Northeast Iowa Drug Task Force officials say the purpose of the event was to keep medications out of the hands of people who may misuse or abuse them, especially our youth. Prescription drug abuse is a growing epidemic in America; it is one of the fastest growing threats to youth today.
