Several St. Benedict's School students compete at the State History Day competition

Two students from St. Benedict's School in Decorah have qualified to compete at the National Day of History competition June 9th through the 13th at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland.

Alex Kane won the Jim Wengert Award for Labor History at the state History Day competition, thereby advancing to the National Contest with her Individual Performance, "Triumph After Tragedy: Frances Perkins and the New Deal."

Justin Berlage is also advancing to the National Contest on the strength of his historical paper titled: Triumph and Tragedy:Penicillin's Discovery and Repercussions .

Three other St. Benedict's students also took part in the State Contest. Jenna Hartz's documentary, "Tragedy & Triumph in the Pacific: A Decisive Victory at Midway" won the Military History Award. An exhibit created by Reid Kuehner and Cole Christopher, "Agent Orange: The Tragedy with No Triumph," made it to the State Finals, meaning they were in the top six entries for Group Exhibit in the state.
