Winneshiek County Roadside Management has completed a prairie reconstruction project on half an acre of property bordering Wellington Place in Freeport.
Crews recently seeded down the narrow strip of county-owned land in an effort to increase pollinator habitat and aesthetic stewardship, using 10 species of grasses and 42 species of forbs. The site will be managed for the benefit of prairie and pollinator habitat by the Winneshiek County Secondary Roads Department.
The project was made possible with funding from the Winneshiek Co. Board of Supervisors, Iowa Rotocast Plastics (previous land operator) and Winneshiek Pheasants Forever.
